Essay Writing Competition

Through critical thinking, creativity, and useful participation, the essay writing competition hopes to educate our youth about the opportunities and difficulties the country faces and help them understand their contribution to the country’s progress. Youth can showcase their exceptional writing abilities at this wonderful occasion.  

 Rules & Regulation: 

  • Venue: Essays must be written on campus at the University of Lahore under supervision.
  • Word Limit: 1500–2000 words.
  • Language: Essays must be written in Urdu.
  • Format: Include an introduction, body, and conclusion. 
  • Originality: Work must be original and properly cited; plagiarism is strictly prohibited.
  • Avoid informal language and contractions; violations may result in penalties.
  • An Introduction or Thesis Statement, which introduces the subject and contains an explanation of your position. The objective is to demonstrate your understanding of the demand of the topic given.
  • A Body, which develops your argument using research and analysis, i.e., comparing and contrasting results and inferential analysis. 
  • A Conclusion, which summarizes the research and arguments presented in the essay,
    sets forth your conclusions. The use of informal language and contractions should be
    avoided; if not, will be penalized.
  • Judging will be based on:
    Strength of arguments
    Clarity of thought
    Knowledge of the topic
    Writing style
    Grammar and punctuation
    Relevance to the topic
  • Essays must be submitted in the specified format within the given deadline.

Bait Baazi

Bait Baazi is a traditional Urdu poetry competition that celebrates linguistic creativity, memory, and poetic expression. Participants must recite verses where each new verse begins with the last letter of the previous one. This engaging contest highlights participants’ knowledge of poetry, quick thinking, and command of the Urdu language.

MUN

  • Model United Nations (MUN)
      Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of global and national legislative bodies where participants represent countries, political entities, or individuals. Delegates engage in discussions, debates, and negotiations to resolve issues of national and international significance.
  • At UOL Olympiad 6.0, we aim to provide an immersive platform for participants to refine their public speaking, critical thinking, diplomacy, and leadership skills. This year, the MUN module will feature three committees:
  1. Pakistan National Assembly (PNA) 
  2. United Nations Women (UNW) 
  3. United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) 

Each committee focuses on addressing specific issues through structured debate and collaboration.

Pakistan National Assembly (PNA): 

Overview:

The PNA simulates the workings of Pakistan’s legislative body, focusing on pressing national concerns and parliamentary procedures. Delegates represent political parties and parliamentarians, aiming to propose and debate policies, laws, and resolutions.

  • Language: Both Urdu and English are allowed.

  • Points and Motions: 

                      • Point of Privilege: To address personal discomfort. 

                      • Point of Order: To correct procedural violations. 

                      • Point of Inquiry: To question the speaker (subject to chair’s approval). 

                      • Motions: Delegates may propose suspensions, extensions, or adjournments.  

United Nations Women (UNW)

Overview:

 UNW focuses on promoting gender equality and empowering women globally. Delegates represent countries to debate gender-based issues, propose policies, and find collaborative solutions to women’s rights challenges.

Rules & Regulations: 

  • Language: English is mandatory.
  • Debate Structure:

                        Moderated Caucus
                        Unmoderated Caucus

Position Papers: Delegates must submit detailed position papers reflecting their country’s stance prior to the event.

United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC)

 Overview

 The UNHRC discusses global human rights violations and solutions to protect the fundamental rights of individuals. Delegates collaborate to draft resolutions to address critical challenges.

Guidelines for Delegates:
Delegates are encouraged to incorporate facts, laws, treaties, and country specific stances in their arguments.

Participation Rules:
 Eligibility: Open to students from all universities, colleges, and schools. Participants can register as individuals or as part of a delegation.

Team Size: Delegations must consist of 3–8 members.

Code of Conduct:

 Delegates must uphold mutual respect and follow committee decorum at all times. 

 • Personal attacks, offensive behaviour, or derogatory remarks will lead to immediate
disqualification. 

 • All delegates must address each other in the third person and maintain a formal tone.

Dress Code:

 Western formal or national attire is mandatory for all sessions.

Debate Rules:
Attendance: Delegates must be present for roll call at the start of each session. Late arrivals may miss the opportunity to speak.

Use of Technology: Phones and laptops may only be used during unmoderated caucuses for research purposes.

Research Material: Delegates may bring pre-prepared notes but are encouraged to speak extemporaneously.

Criteria for Delegations:

Delegation Size:
• Each institution may register a delegation of 3 members, including delegates for all
three committees. 

 • Institutions can bring multiple delegations, but each delegation must register
separately.

Committee Representation:
  Each delegation must have one delegate in each of the three committees (PNA, UNW, and UNHRC).  

 A single delegate cannot represent more than one committee.

Maximum Delegates Per Committee (from a single institution):
Pakistan National Assembly (PNA): Up to 6 delegates. 

 o United Nations Women (UNW): Up to 6 delegates. 

 o United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC): Up to 6 delegates. 

 o This ensures balanced representation across committees.

Best Delegation Criteria:
To qualify for the Best Delegation Award, institutions must ensure active
participation in all committees with thorough research and preparation. 

 o Points are awarded based on the collective performance of delegates across  committees.

Evaluation Criteria

Participants will be assessed on the following parameters: 

 Speeches (40%): Content, clarity, and impact.

 Engagement (30%): Participation in debates and caucuses.

 Position Papers (20%): Research quality and alignment with committee agendas. 

 Adherence to Rules (10%): Following procedures and maintaining decorum.
